SORT OF CASTING
A major Canadian network and Sienna Films are producing an exciting new series, SORT OF, which is looking for performers across the country, specifically trans, non-binary, gender fluid, and gender nonconforming actors.
Sienna Films is an award-winning independent film and television production company based in Toronto, Canada.
The casting for this project is being led by the award winning Casting Director, Jon Comerford. Some of Comerford’s impressive credits include shows such as Shaw’s Bomb Girls, CTV’s Cardinal, and CBC’s, Schitt’s Creek, which each won him Best Casting honours at the Canadian Screen Awards, as well as ABC’s Combat Hospital.
Created by Bilal Baig and Fab Filippo, SORT OF is a half-hour dramedy about Sabi, a gender-fluid 25-year-old who navigates friends, love and family while they find themself taking the place of a parent in a family after the mom ends up in a coma.
We are currently searching for performers, of all experience levels, who self-identify with trans womanhood/trans femininity and trans manhood/ trans masculinity. No social and/or medical transition is necessary to audition for these parts. Neither is presenting in traditionally "feminine" or "masculine" ways.
We want to bring the opportunities that this show presents to trans, non-binary, gender fluid, and gender non-conforming people who may not have had the chance to portray characters that reflect themselves before. This show prioritizes authentic representation, and ensuring transgender roles are portrayed by transgender performers.
Currently we are auditioning for the first season of this new Canadian series, which will film approximately between October 15, 2020 and December 3, 2020. Here are two examples of roles that will be cast immediately:
Olympia, 35-40, trans woman: After recently immigrating to Toronto Olympia decided to live her best life no matter what. Olympia is a trans woman who enters Sabi’s life and shows them that you can be happy and a trans woman. Olympia lives in her own world because the other world sucks. Olympia loves to dance, laugh, make out, repeat.
Deenzie, 50-60, trans man: Deenzie is Sabi’s third boss. Deenzie is a trans man who has been managing Bar Bük for over twenty years. Deenzie is feeling their mortality with a ferocity and desperately craving adventure.
